Over 3,300 pounds of Ahi Tuna Wasabi Poke sold under Costco\u2019s Kirkland Signature brand have been recalled because potential listeria contamination in the green onions used in the product.<\/p>\n
Western United Fish Co. announced the recall <\/a>with the knowledge of the Food and Drug Administration on Saturday after its green onion supplier reported a positive listeria monocytogenes test result on Sept. 17.<\/p>\n \u201cWe are continuing to work with our green onion supplier to determine the root cause,\u201d Western United Fish Co. said.<\/p>\n No illnesses have been reported.<\/p>\n Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that \u201ccan cause serious and sometimes fatal infections\u201d in young children, the elderly or those with weakened immune systems, the company said in a news release. It can also lead to serious pregnancy complications. Healthy people may suffer short-term symptoms including high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.<\/p>\n The affected product was packaged in clear plastic clamshell containers with the Kirkland Signature brand label with a pack date of Sept. 18, 2025, and a sell-by date of Sept. 22, 2025.<\/p>\n It was sold at the deli sections of Costco Warehouse stores on Sept. 18 in 33 states: Alabama, Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.<\/p>\n Consumers are advised not to eat the product, to dispose of it and to visit their local Costcos for full refunds.<\/p>\n Listeria infection is the third leading cause of death from foodborne illness in the United States, with an estimated 1,600 people infected every year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention<\/a>.<\/p>\n In May, at least 10 people were hospitalized in California and Nevada<\/a> in a listeria outbreak involving ready-to-eat foods produced by Fresh & Ready Foods LLC of San Fernando, California, which issued a voluntary recall at the time.
